A graduate of Fine Art, David Azurza combines his work as countertenor with that of choirmaster, composer and teacher of vocal technique.
He is a member of the vocal groups Capilla Peñaflorida (specialised in ancient music) and Kea (contemporary), and has given various courses on vocals throughout Spain.
His compositions are centred mainly around choral music, especially for Childrens’ or Youth choirs. As a composer, he has won awards on various occasions in the Tolosa International Choir Competition, (1993, he won 2nd prize with his piece “Ur bidea”, and in 1998, first prize with “Bost joku zerutiar” ). In 2000, his work “Juaniko Olabarriko” was selected as the required piece for the Childrens’ category in the Tolosa Choir Competition.
He has formed part of the Technical Committee of the Federation of Childrens’ Choirs of Guipuzcoa since 1992.
